SuG! Where have you been all my life? How come I was not formally introduced to this band when they first started? Hip. Fun. Rockin'. A recipe for a good sound. It was not until I heard this song that I started to give modern J-rock bands a try again. Lately I've been pretty disappointed in the current scene as it becomes more and more bogged down with Gazette clones and Dir en grey knock-offs. However, this band changed my view, a pretty different sound with a splash of the generic stereotypical visual kei flavor. Who would have imagined inserting hip-hop riffs and choreographed moves to a beat of a rock tune would ever so spark a twinkle in my eye.
The PV starts off with a rather odd intro, starring a very effeminate man named KERWIN, who apparently speaks some pretty broken english. Hey he tried though I'll give him that. Apparently the background story of this PV is that, a mysterious group of thieves called Pink Masquerade (which obviously is SuG) are after a painting which I assume is worth a high price. The screen goes nuts and cuts off into the main scene with SuG inside a nightclub. If you look closely throughout the PV you can notice some of the band members have disguised themselves as customers to get ever so close to their prize. It's a typical clever robbery setting... but they execute it in an entertaining way.
Takeru, the vocalist, has some fun looking dance moves in this PV. They may not rival American and Korean pop stars, but it somewhat gives originality to the PV and band where as the typical vocalists these days would recycle moves from each other and their predecessors. I am for certain at some point in my life I will concentrate a day or two trying to figure out the moves to this song. Then again I'm a horrible dancer so I'd rather not humiliate myself. IT JUST LOOKS LIKE SO MUCH FUN! Anyways...
All in all the band looks like a very typical oshare-kei band with their shininess and flamboyant attire. They dont do anything really drastic to the camera angles other than zooming in and out of the band playing on the center disco floor in front of the bar. Lots of flashing lights and on-looking extras being ever so enthused.
The production of the PV is great, the song however is ... mediocre. Nothing too drastic other than a lot of power chords and some bluesy riffs coming and going. I was impressed though with Shinpei's swing groove on his drumset, it was on a whole different level than the other instruments. Takeru's voice is very smooth and doesn't really do much in terms of originality. His voice isn't all that great but fits the atmosphere of the song, sexy and edgy. The chorus melody is catchy but somewhat forgettable. The bridge where the hip hop beats come in is perhaps the only part of the song where it got me bobbing my head the most. I like the song but it doesnt stand out technically.
All in all its a very entertaining PV and the production value is okay. The song could have been made better but hey, it still catches my ear time to time. I give this :
Originality : ☆☆☆1/2 Production Value: ☆☆☆ Technical Value: ☆☆☆ Entertainment Value: ☆☆☆☆ Overall: ☆☆☆☆/ 5
